Stage 4 (Years 7-8)

This full-day workshop invites homeschool students to step into the world of theatre design. Participants will learn how visual elements like set, costume, and lighting shape a performance’s mood and message. Guided by experienced designers, students sketch, build, and present their own mini stage concepts. The session blends artistic expression, storytelling, and collaborative problem-solving in a hands-on, age-appropriate format. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required.

Performing Arts/Drama/Musical Theatre

This theatre design excursion supports NSW curriculum outcomes across Stages 2 to 4 by integrating Visual Arts, Drama, and English. For Stage 2 (Years 3–4), students meet VA2.1, VA2.2, and VA2.3 by exploring visual storytelling through design, while DRAS2.1 and DRAS2.3 encourage imaginative role-play and interpretation of dramatic meaning. EN2-10C supports collaborative communication and narrative understanding. In Stage 3 (Years 5–6), outcomes VA3.1, VA3.2, and VA3.3 are addressed as students refine design choices and reflect on their creative process, with DRAS3.2 and DRAS3.3 fostering deeper engagement with dramatic structure and symbolism. EN3-7C promotes effective teamwork and presentation skills. For Stage 4 (Years 7–8), students engage with VAS4.1, VAS4.2, and VAS4.3 by applying design principles and evaluating their work, while DRAS4.1 and DRAS4.2 support interpretation and creation of dramatic meaning through design. EN4-1A encourages structured communication and creative expression. This cross-disciplinary activity nurtures creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking in a dynamic, real-world setting.
