Queens Park is a sight for sore eyes year-round, but in spring it really blossoms into something special! Sprawling across 25 heritage-listed hectares, you’ll discover tree-lined avenues and lush green lawns, plus two playgrounds and an off-leash dog area that has tails wagging all over town.

For a true explosion of colour, make your way to the Botanic Gardens section where our spectacular feature displays come into full bloom during Carnival. With over 50,000 annuals and 5,000 bulbs, it’s a floral wonderland! You’ll find gardens full of your favourite flowers such as sweet peas, poppies and pansies, as well as some unexpected additions like parsley, ornamental kale and the weirdly wonderful rats tail statice. The plantings change every year, and the gardens grow and evolve during Carnival itself so visiting more than once is a treat!

Every Monday to Thursday during Carnival, we observe a Quiet Hour in the park from 10am to 11am. All live and piped music is paused, creating a calm and peaceful time to explore the gardens at your own pace.

During Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers you’ll find bunches of things to see and do in Queens Park Botanic Gardens, including Carnival Info Hubs, garden info stands, live music and food trucks. Check out the event listings for each of these to plan your trip.

Make sure you hop aboard the Ferris Wheel for a birds eye view of the gardens – it’s only here during Carnival!

Queens Park Botanic Gardens are open EVERY DAY and you can visit at ANY TIME. And petals, it’s FREE – we’re growing memories, not collecting fees!

1. 🌿 Understand the Features & Value of Public Green Spaces Recognize that heritage-listed parks serve multiple purposes: recreation, nature appreciation, and community space (playgrounds, dog areas, tree-lined avenues). Learn that well-designed public spaces can evolve and improve over time, with plantings changing annually. 2. 🌸 Gain Knowledge of Horticulture & Seasonal Displays Identify common flowering plants: sweet peas, poppies, pansies. Discover less familiar/ornamental varieties: parsley, ornamental kale, rats tail statice. Understand how seasonal events (spring/Carnival) influence what is in bloom and on display. 3. 📅 Develop Event & Travel Planning Awareness Learn to note key event details: special hours (Quiet Hour: Mon–Thu, 10am–11am), temporary attractions (Ferris Wheel only during Carnival), and amenities (Info Hubs, food trucks, live music). Recognize the value of checking event listings before visiting to make the most of your trip. 4. 🧠 Comprehend Accessibility & Public Service Principles Understand the benefit of 24/7, free public access — open every day, any time, no fees. Appreciate that special provisions (Quiet Hour) can be made to accommodate different visitor needs. 5. ✍️ Reading & Information Extraction Skills Practice locating specific facts: opening hours, quantities of plants (50,000 annuals, 5,000 bulbs), rules, and special features. Distinguish between permanent features (park layout, playgrounds) and temporary/Carnival-only features (flower displays, Ferris Wheel, Quiet Hour).
