From robotics and renewable energy to fashion and industrial design, learners engage with real-world applications of STEM and design thinking. The museum’s dynamic displays showcase Australian innovations and global breakthroughs, encouraging students to investigate how ideas evolve from concept to creation. This experience fosters inquiry, problem-solving, and historical understanding, making it ideal for learners across Stages 2 to 5. With free entry for students under 16 and a central Sydney location, the event offers an accessible and inspiring educational outing.

Technologies

For a visit to the Powerhouse Museum – Innovation & Design Discovery, students across Stages 2 to 5 (Years 3–10) can engage with NSW syllabus outcomes through inquiry, observation, and hands-on exploration. In Stage 2 (Years 3–4), outcomes such as ST2-4WS and DT2-2 support investigations into scientific processes and design thinking. Stage 3 (Years 5–6) includes ST3-4WS, DT3-2, and HT3-4, encouraging students to explore innovation, historical context, and problem-solving through technology. In Stage 4 (Years 7–8), outcomes like TE4-1DP, SC4-14LW, and HT4-3 guide learners in analysing design processes, biological systems, and historical developments. Finally, Stage 5 (Years 9–10) outcomes such as TE5-1DP, SC5-15LW, and HT5-3 support deeper engagement with design solutions, scientific inquiry, and historical analysis. This museum experience fosters creativity, critical thinking, and STEM engagement across all stages.
